One of the artists Eisui deeply admires, Tsuguharu Foujita, also exhibited at the Salon d’Automne and went on to establish his reputation in the Paris art scene. Today, artists from around the world continue to submit their work to this historic exhibition, which attracts many art lovers in Paris. To commemorate the selection of Eisui’s work Sōmoku Kokudo Shikkai Jōbutsu for the Salon d’Automne 2021, a special original goshuincho has been created in a limited edition of 100 copies. The design uses the same high-resolution photographic data prepared by a professional photographer for Eisui’s fine art giclée prints, allowing the delicate colors and details of the original artwork to be beautifully reproduced through sublimation printing on Amundsen fabric. About Sōmoku Kokudo Shikkai Jōbutsu This work was created around the theme of water, which changes form endlessly while nurturing life and creating a vast cycle throughout the natural world. It was inspired by Buddhist teachings that remind us of the preciousness of all life and express the wish that all living beings may be happy. The young woman reaches her hands toward the sky to receive the Dharma. She represents the realization that human beings, too, are part of the great circulation of life, and the moment of receiving the teaching expressed by the phrase Sōmoku Kokudo Shikkai Jōbutsu — the idea that plants, trees, the earth, and all existence participate in the possibility of awakening. The COVID-19 pandemic reminded people around the world that we are all living beings sharing one small planet floating in the vast universe. Like every other living creature, we exist only for this brief moment.
